Details of Experience:

Edward arrived at Sans Souci on 3/9/18 after undergoing antibiotic treatment at Montefiore Medical Center, as well as receiving treatment after suffering from a seizure. Upon his initial assessment by the rehabilitation clinicians, his functional capabilities were very limited. He required maximum assistance with almost all activities of daily living, and was totally dependent on assistance for toileting and bathing. In addition, he had limitations with regard to his balance and strength, which minimized his capabilities to perform and function at his previous capacity.

Edward was interested in sports, loved to read, and enjoyed spending time with his mother who he resided with and cared for. It was very important to Edward to be able to return home and resume his daily life and activities. Edward required an individualized rehabilitation program to overcome his limitations and to get him back to his prior level of function. His rehabilitation program consisted of Occupational Therapy and Physical Therapy, as well as seizure precautions provided by the skilled nursing team, in addition to his time with therapy. During treatment sessions, it was noted that Edward performed better with minimal outside distractions, as is common when a patient undergoes treatment one-on-one with a therapist, and therefore required a more isolated and individualized treatment time to allow him to focus on furthering his abilities and progress. This enhanced his experience in therapy immensely and contributed greatly to his rapid growth in capabilities.

After just one month, Edward was prepared for a discharge back to his home on 4/11/18. After an extensive therapy program, he had made great progress and was able to function with greater independence and fewer limitations. He was able to dress, clean and feed himself independently with an assistive device, and he was able to use the restroom with stand by assist. This enabled him to return home with his mother and continue to enjoy his time spent with those closest to him. We only wish the best for Edward, and much continued success and health in the future!
